ABOUT US

Mäesi Apothecary is a slow, intentional approach to skincare, rooted in the wisdom of plants and the rhythms of nature. We compose nourishing, ritual-based skincare formulated for the most sensitive skin.

We grow many of the plants used in our skincare in our Apothecary Gardens, on the edge of a national park and align planting and harvesting with seasonal cycles. Getting to know each plant intimately, how to care for it and what it needs to reach its full potential is so important to obtain the mineral and nutritional content our plants require. We work with the seasons and harvest when the plants are most potent - dripping with pollen, rich in colour and high nutritional value. Plants are harvested by hand, taking only what we need and either dried in the studio for infusion into oils, ground into powders or distilled in our handmade copper still.

Our Apothecary Lab is a repurposed space, separate from our home. Botanicals hang and dry from the rafters, and vintage books fill our shelves. Oils infuse in dark cupboards and balms sit on our shelves awaiting your home. A quiet space where you can hear the trees rustle and the birds chirp. A space that encourages deep thinking, creativity and moving slowly with intention through each day.

SIMPLICITY

We believe you need only a few products in your collection to achieve radiant skin. Each formula is designed to complement the others, supporting your skin as it shifts and changes through the seasons and the cycles of life. We work with rich whole-plant extracts and vibrant plant waters to address the root causes of sensitivity and reactivity, restoring balance at the deepest level.

Our creations are intentionally multi-purpose: a single preparation can cleanse, hydrate, soothe, or renew depending on how it is used. This means fewer products cluttering your shelves, less overwhelm in your daily rituals, and a simpler, slower approach that still meets the many needs of your skin.

By nourishing both the skin microbiome and the lipid barrier, our collection offers a flexible ritual of care - adaptable, elemental, and deeply in tune with the natural world.

ROOTED IN HERBALISM

We honour traditional ways of making skin medicine, complemented by studies in naturopathic science, herbalism and skin health. Using whole plant extracts, organic cold pressed oils and minute amounts of essential oils, we create products that truly support our precious skin microbiome.

Our formulas are created synergistically. Herbs are selected to complement and are then macerated in organic oils for up to 42 days. This ensures potent extracts, nourishing botanicals and holistic skin wellness.

CARE FOR EARTH

We honour the earth in every step of our process, sourcing ingredients sustainably and crafting each product with mindful, minimal-impact practices. From our regenerative gardens to thoughtfully designed packaging, we aim to nurture both the skin and the planet. We take only what we need, leaving blossoms and seeds for insect foragers and the ongoing life of the plants. By creating in small batches and returning spent botanicals to the soil, we ensure our work is rooted in reciprocity - supporting the cycles of renewal that sustain us all.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Rooted in the slow rhythms of the Perth Hills of Western Australia, Mäesi Apothecary was founded by Rebecca Chitty to offer women a gentler way of caring for themselves and their skin. Life among the gardens and animals offers her the slower pace she once longed for. A pace that now infuses into everything she creates.

Her path to Mäesi grew out of both passion and necessity. A lifelong student of herbalism and health sciences, Rebecca always felt drawn to the wisdom of plants. Yet it was through the overwhelm of motherhood, alongside her own experience with autoimmune illness, that she began to seek a gentler way of living. Leaving behind a career in allied health, she turned toward the steady rhythm of nature and the simplicity found in daily rituals. Her own journey revealed how deeply the skin reflects both stress and overall wellbeing. In turning to plants, she found healing and inspiration, discovering that true care for the skin must also tend to the nervous system.

Rebecca deepened her knowledge through formal study, completing an Advanced Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation. This training, alongside her plant-based practice and allied health degree, gave her the tools to create effective, nutrient-rich products designed especially for sensitive and reactive skin.

Mäesi, a name that evolved from her first business Made. Simply (established in 2016), carries this vision forward. Each offering is crafted as a small act of ritual: to nourish the skin, restore balance, and remind us that the simplest care is often the most profound.
